Do you want a location with beautiful fields and trails for your next family photo session? Blyth Park is one of my favorite family photo locations on the north end of Seattle, located in Bothell. This 40 acre park runs along the Sammamish River and is the largest park in Bothell, making it the perfect location for a family photoshoot! Blyth Park really works well for family sessions, maternity session and extended family photo sessions as seen in the photos below!
Blyth Park offers beautiful fields and trails with a variety of scenery.
There are some lovely fields and walking paths at this park that make it feel like you aren’t in the middle of metro area. Formerly a golf course (Wayne Golf Course), this park is now owned by the City of Bothell. As a Seattle family photographer, I love taking photos in fields with dreamy tall grass. Beautiful fields and walking trails are a photographer’s dream! Blyth Park also has a variety of scenery including a few cute bridges and the Sammamish river.
Tall trees filter the sun if an earlier photo session time is needed.
I usually like to do family photo sessions during the golden hour, which is one hour before sunset. But I understand that small children are not always able to stay up that late during the summertime. The Pacific Northwest makes it difficult with it’s late sunsets in the summer! However, Blyth park offers plenty of large and tall trees that can be used to block the harsh sunlight. This makes it a great place to shoot earlier in the day as well as the “golden hour.”
There are a few important things to consider about family photos at Blyth Park
If you get your family photos taken in the spring or early summer, your photos will have a lot of beautiful greens in them! You may even be lucky and get some spring/summer wildflowers! If you decide to do your family photos in mid to late summer or fall, the grass will turn to a golden color, which will change the look of your family images. Golden grass is great for a fall color palette! Both spring greens and fall yellows are gorgeous! For reference, the extended family photos in this blog post were taken in the early fall.
Parking is super easy, and there is a public park bathroom located near the parking lot. (Just in case you need to check your hair or a toddler needs a last minute bathroom break!)
If you have a dog, this park is pet-friendly! So don’t forget to bring your furry family member to your photo session as well!
Another thing to note is that there is a playground nearby, which may be distracting to children. There are ways to avoid this, if you need. (Just let me know!) The playground could also be a fun place to go to after your photo session as a final treat!
